About this course
This one-day online Consultant Interview Prep course is designed to help Emergency Medicine doctors prepare with confidence for competitive consultant-level interviews. It combines expert-led teaching on interview structure and key policy issues with group-based interview practice, ensuring you are ready to perform at your best.
The course covers interview practicalities – how to prepare, what to expect from the panel, and the role of interview 'pre-meets' – as well as answer structure techniques to deliver clear, focused, and effective responses. You'll learn about hot topics in RCEM and the NHS, including the structure of the NHS, the 10-Year Health Plan, and the Urgent & Emergency Care (UEC) Recovery Plan.
Interactive interview practice takes place in small groups of four, with each participant answering at least one question in each of five key theme areas. These themes are:
• Personal motivation and skills
• Teamwork
• Leadership and leading change
• Governance and patient safety
• Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) and health equity
You will observe peers and receive constructive feedback throughout. The course is led by Dr Hannah Baird, an Emergency Medicine Consultant in the North West with extensive interview experience and direct knowledge of NHS policy through her role at NHS England. She will be joined by other NHS Consultants with direct knowledge of the interview process.
Over the past two years, competition for Emergency Medicine consultant posts across the UK has increased significantly. With the introduction of the MRSA exam and run-through training, many doctors may not have faced a formal interview since medical school. This course helps you bridge that gap.
