About this course
This intensive two-day hands-on course is designed for healthcare professionals seeking to refine their advanced skills in musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound-guided injection techniques. Delivered by SonoSkills at the Amsterdam Skills Centre, the programme combines expert instruction with practical wet-lab training using cadaveric specimens, enabling participants to gain real-world experience in specialized injection procedures of both the upper and lower extremity.
The course is structured over two days, with Day 1 focused on the upper extremity (shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand) and Day 2 on the lower extremity (hip, groin, knee, ankle, and foot). Participants will develop competency in a range of advanced techniques including hydrodistension, barbotage for calcific tendinopathy, nerve blocks, hydrodissection for entrapment syndromes, tendon scraping, and joint injections tailored to specific pathologies.
Key learning outcomes include the ability to perform complex ultrasound-guided injections with improved precision and confidence, master nerve blocks and hydrodissection techniques, execute advanced tendon and joint procedures, and optimize needle placement and probe handling for enhanced procedural success.
The course is ideal for physicians, sports medicine specialists, physiatrists, radiologists, and other healthcare providers with basic knowledge of ultrasound-guided injections who wish to elevate their expertise with hands-on, real-world training. Prior basic knowledge and skills in ultrasound-guided injections are recommended as a prerequisite. Trainers include Patricia Smith – van der Meijde (MSK Sonographer) and Lorenzo Masci (Specialist Sports Doctor).
Course structure includes theoretical instruction in advanced techniques, practical hands-on wet-lab sessions with cadaveric specimens covering specific anatomical regions, and facilitated Q&A. The course runs from 08:30 to 16:00 each day, with breaks and lunch included.
