About this course
The Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) course is run by Bromley Emergency Courses on behalf of the Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG). It is designed to teach doctors how to recognise life-threatening emergencies in children, provide practical skills to treat and stabilise unwell children, and demonstrate key competencies required by the RCEM paediatric curriculum — particularly useful for emergency medicine trainees.
The course is delivered through a blended learning model: all virtual learning must be completed before attending the face-to-face component. The in-person training consists of two days at Bromley Emergency's London centre (Terracotta Court, Tower Bridge Road), where participants demonstrate practical skills such as managing a child who is not breathing. Assessments are set by ALSG, with faculty support throughout.
The course covers the treatment of seriously ill and injured children, as well as cardiac arrest in children. It is endorsed by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and completion provides evidence for SLO5 of the RCEM curriculum. The faculty are experienced practising emergency medicine doctors who manage paediatric emergencies regularly, not just teach them.
What sets this course apart is the expertise of the teaching faculty—most are active emergency medicine practitioners—and Bromley Emergency's 21 years of experience delivering emergency medicine and point-of-care ultrasound training. More than 23,000 clinicians have attended Bromley Emergency courses, with an average Google review score of 4.9 out of 5.
Course times: 09:00 am – 17:15 (5:15 pm). You must meet the required standard to receive your certificate upon completion; this is a pass/fail course.
