About this course
This course offers a comprehensive and practical introduction to the use of transperineal ultrasound in the evaluation and management of pelvic floor function and dysfunction, with focus on pelvic floor birth trauma, pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic floor rehabilitation. Designed for healthcare professionals, it combines theoretical foundations with a strong emphasis on hands-on skill development. The course can be combined with the Foundations of Ultrasound in Pelvic Health course on May 7 & 8 for a €250 discount.
The two-day course in Amsterdam teaches participants to identify functional pelvic floor anatomy using 2D, 3D, and 4D transperineal ultrasound, recognize and assess common pelvic floor dysfunctions (SUI, UUI, POP, dyspareunia), perform pelvic floor ultrasound evaluations during pregnancy and postnatal recovery, diagnose birth-related trauma such as OASI, episiotomy, and levator avulsion, assess pelvic organ prolapse across all compartments, and use ultrasound as a tool for patient education and real-time biofeedback. Participants will also develop practical scanning skills with optimized settings for accurate diagnosis.
Special attention is given to developing practical ultrasound skills. Dynamic pelvic floor ultrasound requires hand-eye coordination, real-time interpretation, and optimal use of machine settings. The course includes extensive hands-on sessions with practical tips and tricks to improve image quality and diagnostic accuracy, ensuring participants leave with greater confidence and proficiency.
To ensure optimal learning, participants are required to perform and receive transperineal ultrasound examinations on each other during the practical sessions. This peer-to-peer practice allows for realistic skill application and helps build both technical competence and patient communication confidence in a safe and supervised environment.
The course is ideal for healthcare professionals (midwives, gynaecologists, physiotherapists) seeking to enhance their diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities in pelvic floor care using non-invasive imaging techniques.
