About this course
This exclusive 2-day hands-on practical workshop provides an excellent opportunity to practice ultrasound-guided peripheral joint and soft tissue injections on soft embalmed cadavers. The course offers a blended learning approach combining hands-on practical training with 6 months of access to the SonoSkills eLearning platform containing 43 online videos totaling 5 hours of on-demand content.
Participants will learn and practice a variety of injection techniques covering the shoulder (subacromial bursa, glenohumeral joint, AC joint, long head of biceps), wrist and hand (wrist joint, 1st CMC, DQ, carpal tunnel), elbow (elbow joint, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow), knee (knee joint, patellar tendon, pes anserine, pre patellar bursa), hip (trochanteric bursa, hip joint), and foot and ankle (ankle joint, plantar fascia, tibialis posterior, Achilles tendon, 1st MTP, Morton's neuroma). Training is delivered under close supervision by experienced tutors with a maximum of three participants per ultrasound machine and a high tutor-to-participant ratio.
Learning outcomes include describing and practising needle visualization techniques; understanding probe and patient positioning for basic peripheral joint and soft tissue injections in upper and lower limbs; performing basic injection techniques safely; and appreciating the complexities of injection therapy in clinical practice including potential pitfalls. The course emphasizes that ultrasound-guided injections provide greater accuracy and precision than landmark-based or blind injections, enabling clinicians to visualize joints and surrounding structures to deliver medication precisely to the intended area, resulting in improved patient outcomes, faster pain relief, and fewer side effects.
The course is held at Amsterdam Skills Centre, a state-of-the-art facility at the grounds of Amsterdam Medical University in the Netherlands. Upon completion, participants receive a SonoSkills Certificate of Attendance and the course is accredited for 17 CME points (hands-on and online combined), 12 points ABAN (hands-on), and 4.5 points ABAN (online).
