About this course
Children's eyes: An introduction is an online course designed to build clinician confidence and skills when working with infants and children who have eye and vision problems. Delivered by Moorfields Eye Hospital in partnership with UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, this course is particularly valuable for healthcare providers who mainly serve adults and only occasionally encounter paediatric cases.
The course combines approximately 8 hours of self-paced online learning with a 2-hour live webinar conclusion. The webinar is repeated on different dates throughout the year as learners progress through the materials, allowing flexibility in completion timing.
The course is structured around 16 comprehensive units covering: normal child development, developmental disabilities, communication with children and families, safeguarding, normal and abnormal refractive and visual development, vision screening and assessment techniques, eye health examination, common childhood eye conditions, and research involving children.
- Unit 1: Normal child development
- Unit 2: Developmental disabilities
- Unit 3: Communicating with children and families
