About this course
The IMG Masterclass is MedNexus's essential post-PLAB programme designed to help international medical graduates transition successfully into the NHS. This free, self-paced online course bridges the gap between passing the PLAB and launching an impactful career in the UK healthcare system.
The course is structured across four core modules plus a bonus networking module, totalling 58 lessons, 10 masterclass videos, and 4 interactive assessments:
- Module 1: Social Adjustment — covers UK visas for IMGs, living options, income tax, National Insurance, VAT, budgeting, cost of living, NHS pension scheme, and public transport/driving.
- Module 2: Professional Acclimatisation — explores the healthcare ecosystem in England, multidisciplinary teams, the medical hierarchy, Allied Health Professionals, work expectations, contracts, leave entitlements, hospital settings, on-calls, escalation and handover, civility, guidelines (NICE, BNF), the BMA, Medical Defence Organisations, GMC registration, and critical lessons on avoiding GMC referrals.
- Module 3: Career Progression — covers prerequisites for working in the UK, DBS checks, NHS specialities, competition ratios, career routes, CESR progression, clinical and educational supervisors, appraisal, revalidation, ARCP, portfolio building, examinations, and licensing.
- Module 4: Communication Simulations — features lessons on breaking bad news, clinical handover, duty of candour, handling difficult colleagues, prioritising work, presenting cases, and managing difficult situations.
- Bonus Module: Matching & Networking — provides networking opportunities and career aspiration matching.
The course empowers IMGs to acclimatise to the NHS system, avoid GMC referrals, secure clinical attachments, and excel in specialist training. Each module concludes with a quiz to test understanding. The curriculum emphasises critical lessons on IMG essentials, avoiding GMC referrals, and the career progression blueprint, equipping IMGs with both practical knowledge and the professional insight needed for a successful UK medical career.
