About this course
Sweet & Salty is an on-demand course covering management of common endocrine and electrolyte disorders you'll encounter on the ward. Created by Dr Akash Doshi, a registrar in Endocrinology & Diabetes, the course combines video tutorials with quizzes to build your clinical confidence.
The course is divided into two main sections:
Sweet section covers glucose management:
• Hypoglycaemia – finding the cause and treating both unconscious and conscious patients
• Hyperglycaemia – step-by-step management including when to avoid stat insulin, using a sliding scale, and adjusting medications and insulin
• DKA & HHS – recognising and treating these acute endocrine emergencies
Salty section covers electrolyte management:
• Hyperkalaemia – practical advice on calcium gluconate and other emergency treatments
• Hyponatraemia – a simplified approach to identifying the cause and treating it
• Hypercalcaemia – key diagnostic questions, investigation interpretation, and treatment strategies
The course consists of 6 video lessons paired with 6 quizzes, one for each topic. Upon completion, you'll receive a certificate. This is designed as a practical learning experience for busy ward-based doctors who need to quickly understand and apply these concepts in real clinical scenarios. The course creator offers personalised support and will update content until every enrolled learner fully understands the material.
