About this course
Teach The Teacher is a comprehensive online course designed for junior and senior doctors, clinicians and healthcare professionals who aspire to become effective educators in their respective fields. This asynchronous, self-paced course empowers clinicians with the pedagogical skills, instructional strategies and innovative techniques essential for delivering impactful and engaging educational experiences to their peers and trainees.
The course spans 2 days of content but operates entirely at your own pace, allowing you to participate from home and tailor your learning schedule to fit around your clinical commitments. You have 90 days from enrollment to complete the course. Lectures, assignments and quizzes are all accessible on the website whenever suits you best, with no live sessions required.
The curriculum is structured in five key modules: Introduction to Teaching Principles (exploring adult learning theory, clinical teaching, and engaging learning environments); Assessment Strategies (feedback mechanisms, assessment methods and approaches to feedback in medical education); Teaching in Clinical Contexts (bedside teaching, case-based learning and technology integration); Fostering a Reflective Learning Environment (learning styles, reflective practice and creating nurturing learning spaces); and a final Writing Task comprising a short reflective essay.
Assessments include a short reflective essay (maximum 500 words) and quizzes with unlimited attempts, both required for course completion. Upon successful completion and marking of your essay, you will receive a CPD certificate attesting to your proficiency as a clinical educator. This course is accredited for 12 CPD points.
The course is designed for both experienced doctors and recent graduates working in clinical settings. Learning objectives cover understanding core teaching principles and adult learning theory, developing effective assessment and feedback strategies, applying teaching to clinical contexts, fostering reflective practice, and synthesising learning into personal teaching development. The certificate can be added to your portfolio as evidence of training in teaching methods, useful when applying for specialty training posts.
