About this course
Bromley Emergency Courses has developed a dedicated ultrasound course for surgeons in response to growing interest in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) within the surgical community. The course is suitable for junior registrars, core surgical trainees, surgical clinical fellows, and foundation doctors who want to develop practical ultrasound skills relevant to surgical practice.
The course covers core surgical ultrasound applications including abdominal ultrasound (appendix, aorta, gallbladder, liver and free fluid assessment), urology and renal tract imaging, musculoskeletal ultrasound (soft tissue infection, injury, fractures and dislocations), and ultrasound-guided procedures (vascular access and ultrasound-assisted drainage).
By the end of the course, trainees will be able to select appropriate probes and optimise ultrasound images, use common functions and features of various ultrasound machines including hand-held devices, obtain standard views of relevant organ systems, and conduct ultrasound-guided procedures with greater confidence.
The course combines pre-course learning materials (provided after booking) with a one-day teaching format. The course day alternates between short lectures covering POCUS applications in surgery and practical scanning sessions on healthy volunteers and ultrasound simulators with pathologies. You will have hands-on experience with a range of ultrasound machines, including portable and hand-held devices.
The course is led by experienced faculty including Dr Ian Stell, Dr Gerlin Naidoo (Paediatric & Neonatal Surgery senior registrar), Dr George Nada, and Dr Gabin Mbanjumucyo. Bromley Emergency Courses has 21 years' experience delivering emergency medicine and ultrasound training to over 23,000 clinicians, with a 4.9 out of 5 average Google review score.
