About this course
Medical Update for the Psychiatrist 2026 is a comprehensive two-day live online course run by Infomed Ltd, a UK-based medical education provider established in 2004. This course is aimed at consultants, senior specialist trainees (STs), and SAS doctors working in psychiatry and has been updated in response to feedback from previous delegates and recent developments in clinical practice.
The course combines short theory lectures with case scenarios, discussion, and interactive Q&A sessions. Each 50-minute session includes 5–10 minutes for discussion and questions, enabling delegates to interact directly with expert faculty using online interactive tools. The format is designed to be practical and immediately applicable to clinical practice.
The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of medical topics essential for psychiatric practice:
- ECG interpretation and cardiology for psychiatrists—identifying normal/abnormal ECG patterns, automatic reporting, and what psychiatrists must not miss
- Neurology essentials—5-minute neuro exam, when to refer for neuroimaging, epilepsy, dementia, Parkinson's disease, and antipsychotic-drug interactions with seizures
- Neuroimaging in psychiatry—CT, MRI and other modalities, when to order imaging, and interpreting neuroradiological reports
- Perinatal mental health—mental illness related to childbearing, psychotropic medication in pregnancy and lactation, and NICE guidelines
- Sexual and reproductive health—contraception, drug interactions, menstrual cycle disorders, menopause, HRT, and sexual dysfunction
- Cardiovascular issues—identifying ECG problems, psychotropic medication effects on the heart, chest pain management, sudden death syndromes, clozapine-related problems, and psychiatric medication side effects
