About this course
Update on Paediatric Emergencies is a three-day live online course running since 2005, designed for consultants, registrars, middle-grade doctors and senior trainees working in general emergency departments, paediatrics and paediatric emergency departments who see paediatric patients presenting as emergencies. The course provides a comprehensive, fact-filled and stimulating update covering the most difficult aspects of paediatric emergencies that doctors encounter in the critical first hours of patient management.
The course combines lectures with interactive Q&A sessions, enabling participants to engage directly with a faculty of expert consultants from leading hospitals across the UK. Topics span the full breadth of paediatric emergency presentations, including gastrointestinal emergencies, respiratory decision-making, infections and fever, analgesia and procedural sedation, surgical problems, minor injury pitfalls, safeguarding, seizures and syncope, critically ill children, neonatal emergencies, imaging, trauma, dermatology, toxicology, forensic aspects, diabetes, neurodisability and adolescent care.
Each full three-day attendance provides 18 CPD study hours (6 per day). Participants have 90 days of on-demand access to recorded sessions after the live course concludes, allowing unlimited playback for revision and catch-up. All attendees receive a CPD certificate of attendance. The course is run over three full days with scheduled lecture sessions, multiple breaks, and lunch breaks included.
Attendees have consistently praised the course for its excellent speaker quality, relevant and up-to-date evidence-based content, practical focus applicable to daily ED practice, interactive delivery via Teams/Webex platform, good time management, comprehensive topic coverage across common and less common paediatric emergencies, and the flexibility of online attendance from home or office. The course has built a strong reputation for maintaining high educational standards while delivering accessible professional development for busy clinicians.
