About this course
Anaesthesia for the Patient Living with Obesity 2027 is a practical, interactive online course delivered by Infomed Ltd on Thursday 18 March 2027. This event is designed for consultants and career-grade anaesthetists who are managing an increasing number of patients living with obesity in their day-to-day practice.
The course provides a comprehensive update on anaesthetic management across the entire patient journey — from pre-operative assessment and preparation through to post-operative care. It covers anaesthetic induction and maintenance techniques, practical tips from bariatric specialists, and special considerations for children, obstetric patients, and critically ill individuals. Faculty members are experienced consultant anaesthetists with expertise in obesity anaesthesia from leading UK NHS trusts including University College London Hospitals, Royal London Hospital, and Heartlands Hospital.
The format comprises interactive lectures followed by case scenarios, discussion, and Q&A sessions. Key topics include pre-operative assessment and optimisation; anaesthetic induction with special focus on airway management in obese patients; anaesthetic maintenance and reversal; post-operative care including pain management and airway management; bariatric surgery anaesthesia; paediatric obesity; obstetric anaesthesia in obese parturients; and TIVA (target-controlled infusion) in obese patients. The course addresses practical questions such as which investigations are truly worthwhile, management of post-COVID patients, safe patient handling and positioning, and post-operative ward placement decisions.
Access is provided online using Teams or Webex. Delegates receive live online access, 90 days of on-demand access to the recorded course with unlimited playback, and a CPD certificate of attendance. The event is accredited by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for 6 CPD credits. Full technical support is provided by Infomed, including joining links sent one week before the course, and support via chat, email, and telephone on the course day.
