About this course
A practical, hands-on course on the use of ultrasound in the assessment of critically ill patients designed for Acute Physicians, Anaesthetists, Intensivists and Emergency Physicians. This course is suitable for those new to the clinical applications of focused ultrasound as well as those with prior experience.
The course covers ultrasound physics, knobology and image optimization, focused assessment for abdominal aorta aneurysm (AAA), lung ultrasound covering pneumothorax, pulmonary oedema and pneumonia, extended focused assessment with sonography for trauma (EFAST/FAFF), echo in life support (ELS) and shock assessment, vascular assessment (central and peripheral), and fascia iliaca compartment block using state-of-the-art needle trainer technology.
What sets this course apart is that it goes beyond Level 1 requirements and offers more hours of hands-on scanning than any other national course. You will scan with live models and state-of-the-art Bodyworks Ultrasound simulator, where you can see and demonstrate a wide range of realistic pathologies. You will also work with handheld ultrasound devices, receive close guidance from faculty, and have extensive freedom to use the equipment and maximize your learning benefit.
The course features advanced instructors—only the most experienced, highly trained instructors teach on the course. Small group learning ensures personalized instruction with a low student-to-instructor ratio, and you will have access to the latest ultrasound equipment.
The course structure includes interactive, focused lectures with extensive use of real-life screenshots and video clips, followed immediately by practical sessions with live demonstrations on models, patients (condition allowing), and the Bodyworks simulator. You will have the opportunity to practice on a variety of widely used and state-of-the-art machines.
