About this course
Infomed Ltd delivers this CPD-accredited live online course providing an update on medications used in the management of medical disorders highly relevant to psychiatric practice. The course is aimed at consultants, senior specialty trainees (ST) and SAS doctors in psychiatry and has been refined based on feedback from previous attendees and recent clinical developments.
The course runs as a full-day virtual event, structured as short theory lectures followed by case scenarios, interactive discussion and Q&A sessions with an experienced faculty. Attendees will cover key pharmacological updates across multiple specialties: cardiovascular medications (including QTc effects and clozapine interactions), neuropharmacology (epilepsy, Parkinson's, headache, MS), psychiatric and urological drug interactions, endocrine pharmacology and diabetes management (with emphasis on newer agents like GLP-1 agonists and SGLT-2 inhibitors), and gastrointestinal/liver disease medications that may cause psychiatric symptoms or interact with psychotropic drugs. A final session focuses on safe prescribing of psychotropic medicines in special populations including HIV.
Key topics include: managing polypharmacy risks, monitoring requirements, NICE and other evidence-based guidelines, side-effect profiles relevant to psychiatric practice, and interactions between psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications. The course emphasises newer medications and those with recent evidence, with a clear clinical focus on application to day-to-day practice.
The delivery is via Teams or Webex. Attendees receive live access on the day plus 90 days of on-demand access to the recording with unlimited playback, allowing flexibility for those who cannot attend live or wish to revisit specific sessions. A CPD certificate awarding 6 CPD points is provided upon completion of the feedback form.
