About this course
Focused Acute Medicine Ultrasound (FAMUS) is a one-day, hands-on course designed for Emergency Physicians, Acute Physicians, resident doctors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Medical Associate Professionals, and Consultants. The course teaches clinicians to confidently integrate point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) into everyday Emergency and Acute Medical practice through a combination of scanning practice, image interpretation, case discussions, and evidence review.
The curriculum covers Ultrasound Physics and Knobology; Cardiac ECHO (heart failure, wall motion abnormality, pulmonary embolism and right heart strain, aortic dissection); Abdominal imaging (free fluid/ascites, hydronephrosis, bladder distension); Thorax (pneumonia, pneumothorax, pleural effusion); US-guided Vascular Access and Nerve blocks; DVT assessment; and case-based image review quizzes.
Learning is delivered through expert faculty—leading Acute, Emergency, Radiology Specialists and Ultrasonographers—in small groups with a low student-to-instructor ratio. Participants gain hands-on experience with live models and state-of-the-art Bodyworks Ultrasound simulators, enabling practice on realistic pathologies in a controlled environment.
The course is FAMUS approved and equips clinicians with practical confidence to use POCUS in real-world clinical settings, particularly in Emergency Departments and Acute Medical Wards.
