This two-day hands-on course is designed for Emergency Physicians, Acute Physicians, Resident doctors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Medical Associate Professionals, and Consultants working in intensive care, emergency departments, and acute wards. It is Intensive Care Society/FUSIC approved and covers the essential practical skills to confidently integrate point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) into everyday clinical practice.
The course combines theoretical knowledge with intensive practical experience. Day 1 covers ultrasound physics and knobology, abdominal ultrasound (normal anatomy, ascites, hydronephrosis, bladder distension, ultrasound-guided paracentesis), thorax and lung ultrasound (pneumothorax, pleural fluid, consolidation, interstitial syndrome), and vascular ultrasound with DVT assessment and ultrasound-guided vascular access. Day 2focuses on focused cardiac ultrasound, including assessment of left and right ventricular function, valvular pathologies, pericardial effusion, and volume status in acute and critical settings, with FUSIC Heart and BSE Level 1 accreditation pathways.
Learning is delivered through hands-on scanning with live models, image interpretation, case discussions, and evidence review. The course uses state-of-the-art Bodyworks ultrasound simulator technology allowing practice with realistic pathologies. Small group instruction with a low student-to-instructor ratio ensures personalized learning. All faculty are expert Acute, Emergency, and Intensive Care Specialists and Ultrasonographers, all FUSIC accredited.
