About this course
This one-day, hands-on ultrasound course is designed for Emergency Physicians, Intensivists, and Acute Physicians working in emergency departments, intensive care units, and acute wards. It is aimed at residents, trainees, consultants, advanced clinical practitioners, and associate healthcare professionals. The course is Intensive Care Society approved and FUSIC accredited.
The course curriculum covers fundamental ultrasound skills and clinical applications across four key areas: Basics (ultrasound physics, knobology, and image optimization); Abdominal Ultrasound (normal organ appearances, ascites, hydronephrosis, bladder distension, and ultrasound-guided paracentesis); Thorax/Lung Ultrasound (systematic examination, pneumothorax, pleural fluid, consolidation, atelectasis, and interstitial syndrome); and Vascular/DVT scanning (vascular anatomy, pathology recognition, and ultrasound-guided vascular access). The course concludes with case-based image review quizzes.
Learning is delivered through a combination of hands-on scanning practice with live models, image interpretation, case discussions, and evidence review. Trainees scan on state-of-the-art Bodyworks Ultrasound simulators, allowing practice across a wide range of pathologies in a controlled environment. The small-group format ensures personalized instruction with a low student-to-instructor ratio.
Faculty are leading specialists in acute, emergency, and intensive care medicine, all of whom are FUSIC accredited. This course equips physicians to confidently integrate point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) into their everyday clinical practice across emergency, medical, and intensive care settings.
