About this course
This 1-day intensive course is aimed at novices in critical care transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) or those wanting to refresh their knowledge. Delivered by g&h, experts in critical care ultrasound education, the course covers the basics of heart ultrasound using a focused TOE dataset and how to apply clinical findings in practice.
The course is approved for fTOE accreditation by the Intensive Care Society and Association of Anaesthesia, and awards 5 CPD points from the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCOA).
Topics and activities include:
- Introduction to fTOE syllabus and knobology
- Sonoanatomy and basic echo views – live demonstration
- Common pathologies and interesting cases
- 3 hours of hands-on scanning workshops using Bodyworks 'Eve' simulator

Taught by expert faculty including Dr Gary Lau (Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, BSE accredited FUSIC and FAMUS supervisor and TOE accreditation assessor) and Hannah Conway (National FUSIC Heart Lead, BSE accredited FUSIC and FAMUS supervisor, BSE Level 1 Examiner, and fTOE and HD Examiner).
