About this course
This is a practical update course designed for Consultant General Anaesthetists dealing with complex challenges when on-call, particularly those with on-call responsibilities based at District General Hospitals who undertake obstetric and paediatric procedures. The course combines interactive lectures with case scenarios, discussion, and live Q&A sessions with expert faculty.
The day is split into two main sessions: a morning obstetrics track covering maternal morbidity, labour anaesthesia, anaesthesia for operative delivery, and obstetric haemorrhage management; and an afternoon paediatric anaesthesia track covering the paediatric and neonatal airway, paediatric pre-assessment and new guidance, management of the critically ill child, and paediatric retrieval and team working. Throughout the course, delegates will gain a comprehensive overview of recent evidence and new guidance, identify any skills and knowledge gaps relevant to their practice, and gain greater confidence in their current practice.
Lectures are delivered by an experienced faculty of consultant anaesthetists with extensive experience in advancing knowledge and skills of peers nationally and internationally. The course content is practical, evidence-based, and pitched at a level suitable for the General Anaesthetist working at a DGH. Relevant recent guidelines and literature are incorporated throughout, including MBRRACE updates, OSA national guidelines, and Martha's Rule guidance. The course is delivered online via Teams or Webex, with full IT support provided on the day. Delegates receive the joining link and instructions one week before the course, and can attend from their own computer or mobile device without requiring any special software.
