About this course
When international medical graduates (IMGs) and GP trainees join the NHS, one of the biggest challenges they encounter is understanding safe prescribing practices in UK General Practice. Differences in protocols, formularies, and national or local guidelines compared to those in their home countries often lead to uncertainty and hesitation in making prescribing decisions.
Medication errors remain a serious concern, costing the NHS millions of pounds annually and, most importantly, compromising patient safety.
This interactive, hands-on one-day online course has been developed in collaboration with experienced NHS tutors to bridge this gap. Specifically designed for General Practice trainees, it equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to prescribe safely in real-world primary care settings.
Through case-based discussions, practical exercises, and direct feedback from GP educators and pharmacists, attendees will gain a clear understanding of evidence-based prescribing, local formularies, and patient safety protocols. A pre-course workbook containing clinical scenarios, guidelines, and reference materials is also provided to support preparation and effective learning.
