About this course
Point-of-care Ultrasound (PoCUS) is becoming essential in primary care, and this course is tailored specifically to the clinical needs of GPs and other primary care professionals including physiotherapists, paramedics and nurses.
The course programme is designed around real situations that GPs encounter, combining theoretical knowledge with practical scanning skills. Over one day, you will progress through short lectures and presentations on PoCUS applications in primary care, alternating with focused hands-on scanning sessions. You will gain experience scanning on healthy volunteers and state-of-the-art simulators that demonstrate various pathologies, using a range of modern ultrasound machines including the latest hand-held devices.
Course topics covered:
• How to use ultrasound equipment and obtain useful diagnostic images
• Abdominal ultrasound: aorta, liver, gallbladder and ascites assessment
• Basic gynaecological ultrasound examination
• Lung ultrasound for pleural effusion and consolidation
• Basic musculoskeletal ultrasound: shoulder, ankle and knee pathologies
• Evaluation of lumps and bumps
• DVT assessment
Before the course day, you will receive online access to videos covering core theoretical knowledge, allowing you to maximise your time for practical hands-on scanning. The course is led by ultrasound practitioners with extensive experience in both General Practice and Emergency Medicine. Bromley Emergency Courses has 21 years of teaching experience and over 23,000 clinicians have completed their courses, with an average Google review rating of 4.9 out of 5.
