About this course
Bromley Emergency Courses' Ultrasound Guided Cannulation course is designed for clinicians wanting to develop their cannulation skills using ultrasound guidance. The course is suitable for both those new to ultrasound and those with prior experience, and aims to fix common cannulation errors while teaching advanced techniques such as ultrasound-guided arterial line placement. The training delivers practice-changing supervision intended to transform how you use ultrasound for vascular access and improve your success rates.
The course covers ultrasound as an imaging modality, identification of vascular structures, upper limb anatomy, and hands-on ultrasound-guided cannulation technique. You will have the opportunity to practice on a variety of ultrasound machines and handheld devices, with facilitators helping you scan neck, torso, and upper limb anatomy to build familiarity. Ultrasound-guided vascular access reduces puncture attempts and potential complications compared to blind cannulation, particularly when dealing with non-visible or non-palpable veins.
This course is open to a broad range of clinicians, including doctors (from FY1 to consultant), advanced clinical practitioners, nurses, phlebotomists, paramedics, senior medical students, and healthcare assistants. No prior ultrasound experience is required; the only pre-course requirement is that you are regularly involved in cannulation in your current role. The course runs 9:00am–12:30pm or 1:30pm–5:00pm at Terracotta Court, 167 Tower Bridge Road, London.
You can apply for 3 CPD points for this course. A custom-made, in-house Vascular Access Model is available to course attendees at a discounted price of £25 (regular price £50).
